It's so weird how they used to be popular with teens cause today they're part of my school uniform and everyone thinks they're disgusting

I still have the ones I bought in '98 - and I still wear them.

I think I had about 10 different pairs when I was younger, I even had the fake-brand ones AS WELL. I had them in sooo many different colours, it's kinda amazing really. Nowadays, I only have a black mid-calf pair that I got for free and don't wear anymore.

Well, ten doesn't seem like that much to me. Maybe I had more, I don't know. I do know, though, that I used to wear them with basically anything and everything. Even when I had to dress up all nice to go out to dinner and stuff!

The best boots I've ever had. They seem to last forever. They are a symbol for rockers.

Ah, you've got to wear these if you love the nineties . . . they were originally punk but now they're just rocker and I wear them everywhere. Death to the emos man.

hahahahahah I was born in the EARLY early nineties. I wear Doc Martens NOW! I don't know. I listen to Nirvana and Pearl Jam and wear Docs and ripped jeans. Stuck in the 90's much?

I remember they were banned in my elementary school because of the steel toes and Kids kicking each other. I had a fake pair from payless (back before payless was cool)

I bought a pair of thick high-heeled Docs from a vintage store for $36!! The store owner was so pissed because somebody had mis-priced the boots, but I was so incredibly happy. My mom and I had exactly $36 all together. I'm looking for vintage cherry Docs, though, so if you know of a good place, let me know.

i meet my hs swetheart in 1991 because of docs. we were the only ones in the room with docs on. back then it seemed that you could have a conversation with someone if you wore docs and they wore docs. he had blue 10 holes and i had on wing tipped t-strap mary janes in ox blood. we thought we were so cool because we were so misunderstood. ahhh... adolescence.

I bought my first pair in '93. They were 8 hole smooth black. I managed to acquire about 30 pairs, but I pretty much stopped wearing them back in '01. But I've recently rediscovered how great and comfortable these shoes are, and now I've been wearing them exclusively for the past month. I bought 3 pairs on Ebay last week! I don't care if they're out of style now, I still love them! Too bad they're no longer made in England though. They outsourced to China I think. :(

I still have my first pair from 1990. They are all black ( no color stitching) and look just like combat boots. I still prefer wearing my Docs. I have quite a few pair.

I'm 15 and I love my Docs I bought my first pair a couple months ago. These boots are so badass. I'm into the whole 80's look and my docs complete it =](they look kinda big with my tight pants but who cares?)

They still make Docs in a variety of styles and colors...lots of 1460's which were one of the original styles and lots of crazy looking ones with pictures or engravings on them. I have a red pair with dragons carved into them among my collection.
J - July 30, 2009 - Report this comment
my god, I've just found a pair online for $17 new and $1 used. not sure I trust it though since they're so eerily cheap =\

I remember my first pair of Doc's. My friend was so excited because she had to knock offs, so I begged my dad for a pair for a week. When he bought them, I called her over just to look at them. When I went to school the next day, everyone was commenting on my boots! Every couple of months I had to have a new bottle of balm Every once and while, I break out the ankle boots to work in the yard. I use to think I was so cool because I had multiple choices of docs to wear.

My First pair were purple I believe it was 1992 when I was finally able to talk my mom into buying them for me. I wore them everyday for years with everything... There wasn't an outfit they didn't go with (or so I thought anyway lol) I even played softball in them. I still have them packed away all dry rotted with flat soles cause I wore off all the tread. In years to come I got multiple black ones and "Ox Blood"... but I will always cherish the purple ones ~ I was the only person in my neighborhood / school with that color!

They still look cool and feel amazing but the demand isn't what it used to be.The price is much less now than it was when I (my parents) bought a pair.

I still have my docs, gunmetal gray 8 holes and a pair of oyster colored mary janes....My best friend has an awesome pair of orange and red glitter ones that he hasn't worn in ten years, but he still won't give them to me!
Erika - February 24, 2010 - Report this comment
I got my first pair in 1987...black velvet...and I still wear them to this day. I've got knee high to mary janes and everything/every color combination in between...but RIGHT NOW...I am hunting an elusive pair - black with a loose lace back that kind of scrunches up...it's driving me crazy. They're so girly and still so tough. I just love them.

Iand my younger brother spent the whole of our childhood in doc martin boots out of schooltime. Thet were the only footwear apart from school shoes our parents would buy for us. At the age of 12 I can remember being laced up in doc martin boots that practically came up to my knees. We always had to put our docs on when we got home from school and had to go everywhere in them.Even on holidays was no exception we would be laced up so they were tight.

Love Docs!! I've worn Docs for years. I have 2 pairs of black ones like in the picture. I put wide laces in them of different colors. Most comfy boots I've found, always wear to work.

I remember hearing about Docs first in the late 70s/early 80s as part of British punk and streetwear, then seeing them pioneered as fashion items (along with other heavy black men's shoes) in the mid-80s in the work of UK stylist Ray Petri and his Buffalo group for magazines like The Face, and then seeing them peak in actual mainstream popularity in the early 90s, when I actually tried a pair. My feet weren't made for them (I have weird feet), but a lot of people said they were really comfortable. My favorite pair was a friend's black cherry knee-high laceups in ca. 1990.

I have several pairs I got in the early 90's and I still love them. I'm seeing copycats out this year of my favorites. All of my pairs are classic style boots which never go out of style and are in excellent condition. Classic and made to last.

I was introduced to these wonderful boots when I was 13 when a new girl aged 12 came to my school mid-term wearing a fab pair of chunky black steel toe capped DMs. I was fascinated by her as she was the very first girl I had ever seen wearing them! I introduced myself to her and we became firm friends. She wore these boots everyday to school and I later discovered the reason she wore them was to deter boys from hassling her. She was quite well developed for her age and as such attracted quite a bit of unwanted attention from the older boys! How ironic, as it was her boots which I should have been deterred by that first attracted me to her! I've been wearing similar docs ever since!
