I think they came out around '94 or '95 to promote one of the Ace Ventura movies, or more likely the kid-friendly cartoon. They were no bigger than a golf ball, and were wrapped in clear plastic, then put inside a weird container shaped like Ace Ventura's face complete with his mouth wide, wide open. The containers came in a couple colors, red and yellow are the two i remember.
