A pureed blend of fruit, fruit juices, some dairy element (usually nonfat yogurt), and ice for texture. Started a wave of specialty shops such as Jamba Juice, which did them one better by "boosting" the drinks with health products such as wheat grass and vitamins. To the 90s what frozen yogurt was in the 80s.

The following are comments left about Smoothies from site visitors such as yourself. They are not spell checked or reviewed for accuracy. We got our first smoothie shop in town around 1994. We'd skip class to go across the street from our high school and get them. To me this is when the whole "store that only makes one kind of beverage, which you wait in a long line for, pay at the front, and pick up at the other end, and contains more calories than a meal inside of a small plastic cup". Starbuck's did this with coffee, of course. Now that I think about it, maybe Orange Julius is the originator of this concept--way back in the '80s. Hmmmm. Either way, stupid idea, looking back. Smoothies, meh.
This was from the '90's?! Wow, I absolutely love smoothies, especially on hot days. Any flavor you get, are always great. I love Jamba Juice and Robucks! I do prefer Robucks more than Jamba Juice, because in my opinion they pack in more flavor and simpler and better flavors.
The more time I spend on this site the more I hate Philistine
