i remember one time when i was little, a girl i used to play with was drinking one of these in our apartment complex, and some adults recognized it, and just laughed.

I remember Zima! It came out when I was about 8 or 9 years old! I live in the NYC Metro Area and it really wasn't popular here... I think everyone was used to their Buds, Heinekens, and Coronas to even give this beer a chance lol! I think they took this off the market either last year or in 06' or 07' since that was the last time I saw it....

LOL, my friends parents had ONE in their fridge when I was in 7th grade, she and I drank it and my sister ratted on me...wench...Note to the other kids, if your gonna get busted for drinking, make it worth it, say no to Zima!

I remember seeing this all the time as a child going into a liquor store with my dad. It was classified as a "wussy" drink. They discontinued it because not many people drank it. BTW what did it taste like? mike's hard? smirnoff?

The last time I saw these was in 9th or 10th grade (2002) It does taste exactly like Smirnoff ice in case anyone is wondering.

Zima was almost a precursor to a lot of the malt bevs around today, only you can say you've had a Mike's Hard Lemonade or a Smirnoff Twist without being laughed at!

Seems like it came out around '92. It was sort of an evolution of wine coolers, which had come out in the mid-80's and were very popular. Zima was the first beverage with no real pedigree: it wasn't wine, or beer, or liquor per se, but it had alcohol. And it was clear. Citrussy flavor. A perfect Girl Drink. it sucked.

I tried this once, and I can see why they don't make it anymore...

Never tried it..did it taste like beer?
Pwicca - June 14, 2017 - Report this comment
It actually didn't taste that bad, like a Truly Spiked and Sparkling Colima Lime or vodka & club soda with lime. One of those things you drink if you don't like the taste of beer or wine but don't want a strong mixed drink. But the new Zima doesn't taste that at all. It tastes like somebody took one of those and poured some sugar in it. It's nasty, don't waste your money on it.
