      One word,three sylables....SABATOGE!

This album was probably the first rap album that I liked that had hard lyrics, but still on some songs could get emotional. And was dedicated to Eazy-E!
    • 5. To The Extreme by Vanilla Ice
Reguardless of what anybody says, this album deserves to be where it is on my list, because the 17,000,000 album saled pretty much say it all.
    • 4. Pearljam by Ten
The first grundge rock album I ever liked.
    • 3. Doggystyle by Snoopdoggy Dog
Doggystyle introduced gangster rap to me in '94.
    • 2. The Great Milenko by Insane Clown Posse
This album brought me to my juggalo status, and is number two on my list because it was the most controversial album in the 90's to me.And gave ICP the largest rap following in rap history.YEAH!!
    • 1. Jump Around by House of Pain
This album introduced hard lyrics by a white rap group to me.

    By: Joe
    • 10. Motley Crue by Motley Crue
This album featured John Corabi, after Vince was kicked out. Side two is the best part. Too bad they didn't keep him.
    • 9. Angel Dust by Faith No More
      The best of their albums.
    • 8. Supernatural by Santana
Sure, it got overplayed. But the man has an almost cosmic touch on the strings.
    • 7. Sevendust by Sevendust
Perfect background noise for when you're angry.
    • 6. Apocalypse 91 by Public Enemy
They say what they say and do it very well.
    • 5. Core by Stone Temple Pilots
If you only have one of their albums, this should be it.
    • 4. Ian Moore by Ian Moore
Saw them open for ZZ Top in 1994. Great blues.
    • 3. Metallica by Metallica
Their last good album, and the most listenable.
    • 2. Rhythmeen by ZZ Top
Not well known, but this album makes you appreciate the genius of Billy Gibbons' guitar work.
    • 1. Hello Nasty by Beastie Boys
Keeps you hooked through their various musical ponderings. They get better all the time.

I have too many to list. But these albums still get the top spots in my CD rack.

    • 10. Unplugged In New York by Nirvana
I know that this isn't actually a studio album, but it is absolutely essential for rock fans. This album just shows what a great band Nirvana really was and how good of a singer Kurt Cobain really was. Almost half of the album is made up of cover songs, the most notable are three songs by the Meat Puppets which Cobain turned into absolute classics. Top cuts: The Man Who Sold The World, Lake of Fire, Oh Me, All Apologies, Where Did You Sleep Last Night.
    • 9. Automatic For The People by R.E.M.
What a perfect sounding album this was. The best by R.E.M. Every song borders on being a classic. Top cuts: Everybody Hurts, Man On The Moon, Nightswimming.
    • 8. Metallica by Metalica
These guys were left-overs from the 80's metal days, but I'm glad they were. I hated bands like Bon Jovi and Poison, and glad that they faded away once Nirvana burst onto the scene. But Metallica survived because they were original and doing their own thing. Make sure you don't pass this album up it's worth buying. Top cuts: Enter Sandman, Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters.
    • 7. Ten by Pearl Jam
This band was often put into the same group as Nirvana, but the two bands couldn't be more different. Pearl Jam is a great band but they were never able to top what they did on this album. Eddie Vedder has one of the greatest voices ever as well. Top cuts: Jeremy, Alive, Black.
    • 6. Mellon Collie and The Infinate Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins
Simply put some of the most beautiful stuff I've ever heard. Top cuts: Tonight, Tonight, 1979, Thirty Three.
    • 5. Dookie by Green Day
This is pop punk at the beginning, it all really started with an angry punk band from California and this album made them stars. They were very influenced by the Clash and Sex Pistols as is evident on the album. Top cuts: Longview, Basket Case, Coming Clean.
    • 4. Dirt by Alice In Chains
Alice In Chains had a huge influence on a lot of modern rock bands including Creed and Godsmack, but neither one them could match the intensity of AIC. They are without a doubt one of the greatest bands in the history of rock n' roll. Rooster is one of the darkest songs I've ever heard. Top cuts: Rooster, Down In A Hole, Would?
    • 3. Superunknown by Soundgarden
Incredible vocals on this album by Chris Cornell. Some crazy guitar riffs and very well written songs. This album is more mature than Soundgarden's previous efforts. Top cuts: Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, The Day I Tried To Live.
    • 2. In Utero by Nirvana
One the most perfect albums ever, the songs like Rape Me, Heart-Shaped Box and All Apologies can stand up against anything. There was something about Kurt Cobain that can't really be explained, the way his voice sounded, almost like the voice that's buried deep down inside of all of us. A pain that we both could relate to and yet never understand at the same time. Top cuts: Heart-Shaped Box, Rape Me, All Apologies.
    • 1. Nevermind by Nirvana
This album changed everything as everyone has already heard a million times but it couldn't be more true. Every band that has come after Nirvana has been influenced by them in some way. It seems like now that every singer out there is a generic Kurt Cobain. This is an album that no one should ever forget, it's more important than any album put out by the Beatles or Led Zeppelin. Rock n' Roll may have very well died when Kurt Cobain did. Top cuts: Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lithium, Polly.

    • 10. Weezer by Weezer
Just a happy and witty album. With ultr catchy songs.
    • 9. Enema of the state by Blink 182
They prooved it wasn;t just a phase
    • 8. Dookie by Green Day
I dunno what Genre, but it is reall friggin catchy
    • 7. Aenema by Tool
Great Great Album just to listen too if your pissed. I never really liked tool. My guitar teacher gave em this album and it is just geat.
    • 6. (What's The Story) Morning Glory by Oasis
Wonderwall, and it almost seems like it tells a story.
    • 5. Metallica (Black Album) by Metallica
Another one of those albums that ever song can be listened to. And not to mention inclusde their biggest song ever "enter Sandman" Best metal band of all time.
    • 4. Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Most under appreciated band. Includes "under the bridge," Breaking the girl" "suck my kiss," and "Give it away."
    • 3. Nevermind by Nirvana
Critics say this is number one. I say this can go no higher than Number 3.
    • 2. Ten by Pearl Jam
Not one flaw. Every song coulda been a hit.
    • 1. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins
This is the only double cd that I can honestly admit to listening to every song and liking it. It is the number 2 selling double of all time, second to Pink Floyd's Wall. That does indeed mean soemthing.

Does not inclue rap. But these are my favorite cd's
    By: Will
    • 10. Under The Table and Dreaming by Dave Matthews Band
Acoustic guitar, fiddle, saxophone, flute....sounds like a bluegrass band meets a jazz band. But this was a new sound that was highly influential (especially in the jam band circuit). Incredible musicians, highly original song stylings and currently the most successful live act out there. I used to see them every Wednesday night in Richmond for free at the now defunct Flood Zone. Incredible musicians!!!!!!!!
    • 9. Automatic For The People by REM
"Murmur" was the album that REM came into the music world with a sound like no one else. It was infectiously fresh. "Automatic" though is where REM brought maturity to their work.....OK maturity may not always be a great thing in rock music. But this album is poetic elegance, lyrically and sonically. The last great REM album with the original lineup.
    • 8. Metallica by Metallica
It's always a sad day when your most beloved metal band goes commercial. Well, this may be Metallica's first commercial appeal, but they didn't sacrifice a thing. Their power, energy and rawness are still intact. And the songs shorter lengths make their statements more powerful (in my humble but totally accurate opinion).
    • 7. Spilt Milk by Jellyfish
Talking about overlooked.....this is a nearly unheard of album from a barely heard of band. But this band was incredibly talented. The music wasn't exactly new or groundbreaking, but the production on this album is comparable to Sgt Pepper's and the pop hooks are as infectious as anything the Beatles did. But the influence isn't just the Beatles, it's Beach Boys, Cheap Trick, Big Star, etc. Basically, it's just a bunch of GREAT songs and performances. Too bad they couldn't get along with each other.
    • 6. Screamadelica by Primal Scream
Maybe this album wasn't as well known in the U.S. as in the U.K., but none the less it is when acid dance and rock music came together for the first time with incredibly fresh results. U2s Achtung Baby was the album that made the sound famous in the US (though with less of a dance groove). This is an amazingly overlooked album from the early 90s.
    • 5. Odelay by Beck
An unlikely rock star creates a geeky conglomeration of musical styles that opens up the possibilities for future music and its previous limitations. Bordering musical genious, Odelay is pop, country, jazz, hip hop, rock, dance, r&b all rolled up in one. Perhaps this is what we actually meant by the term "alernative music" (a term that seemed to lose meaning when it became part of the mainstream).
    • 4. Ten by Pearl Jam
This album blended the familiar sounds of 70s hard rock and Seattle's grunge aesthetics into music that will long be considered a defining sound in 90s rock music. While not as groundbreaking as Nevermind (but equally influential), Ten is a collection of excellent songs and intelligent lyrical imagery. Being such a politically correct album of its time, it will be easy to look back 20 years from now and see where young America's mindset was in the 90s. Definitive music for this era.
    • 3. OK Computer by Radiohead
Radiohead seemed destined to be a one hit wonder when "Creep" appeared in the early 90s, and in a sense, they still are a one "hit" wonder (if you go by the singles charts. But then Radiohead created "The Bends" and established themselves as one of the most important artists of the 90s. Then "OK Computer" made them the subject of many imitators. With its beautiful and experimental soundscapes, infectious melodies and immediate influencial appeal, OK Computer became Radiohead's masterpiece.
    • 2. Achtung Baby by U2
This was the moment when one of the greatest rock bands of the 80s successfully redefined themselves to become one of the greatest bands of the 90s. U2 not only drastically and successfully changed their sound and approach, but they helped popularize a new genre in Euro dance oriented rock. While the adjoining tour for this album may have seemingly defaced some of U2s political-mindedness that we admired so much in the 80s, the music from this album is some of the most important work the band has done.
    • 1. Nevermind by Nirvana
Though Kurt Cobain's imagery is one of darkness, the clouds lifted over the rock music scene when this album appeared out of nowhere. It was the moment when the stale party rock cliches of the hair band era finally graduated to the age of dinosaurs and we returned to music that had something to say. Granted, the trends and the bands that followed this album led to their own cliches that quickly staled, but Nevermind was one of the greatest instruments in changing the face of music (in most cases for the better). Rest In Peace Kurt.

I've left off many albums and I wouldn't consider these entries in the proper order, but these are the ones I thought of!!!!!

There are not many albums that I love every song on, but this is one of those rare exceptions. God, this brings back High School memories...
    • 7. Yourself or Someone Like You by matchbox 20
Normally, I would dismiss this kind of stuff as pop, and write it off, but this album truly shines. A glimmer of talent in a generally talentless pop music arena.
    • 6. The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails
Gritty, tough, dark and a classic. I personally prefer "Pretty Hate Machine", but that was released in 1989, therefore, not eligable here.
