Alice In Chains are without a doubt my favourite band of all time, with the likes of Faith No More, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots and Foo Fighters right up there amongst the top 10. In regards to the Heavies I think Korn, Sepultura, SoulFly, Fear Factory and Tool were all in a league of their own. I think Creed deserves a special note, I am really starting to appreciate their music even more these days. By: ScareeGarry
- 10. Nevermind - 1991 by Nirvana
A truly groundbreaking album,it served as the deathblow for one genre of music and the holy grail of another.Kurt Cobain was the leader of musical revolution thats impact is even felt in the mainstream music of today.Kurt wasn't loved because he was a rockstar,he wasn't even loved because of his music,he was loved becuase he was an "everyman" he was one of us.
- 9. In Utero - 1993 by Nirvana
With their final studio album the biggest band of the 90's pulls off an all out aggressive alternative assault. With heavy guitars and strongly emotional lyrics it's their finest album in my opinion, but would say there's another.
- 8. Ten - 1991 by Pearl Jam
The second biggest "grunge" band of the 90's with what many consider the best grunge album of the 90's.They did help aid the next band in catapulting the alternative sound into the mainstream with a classic album.
- 7. Mellon Collie and the infinite sadness - 1995 by the Smashing Pumpkins
Billy Corgan is constantly overshadowed by all the big artist of the 90's,but is truly a fantastic writer and musician and the owner of a very unique singing voice.
- 6. Life after death - 1997 by Notorious B.I.G.
Biggie's posthumous record released months after his death,it's ironic considering that listening to the album makes you feel like he's still alive.Another rap icon holds the award of best rap album of the 90's.
- 5. The Chronic - 1992 by Dr. Dre
This album set the tone for 90's rap,not to mention launched the career of Snoop Dogg and established Dr.Dre as a solo artist.
- 4. All eyez on me - 1996 by 2pac
The most influential rapper of all time with his best album of all time.A true musical icon and one of the biggest stars of the 90's.
- 3. Metallica(Black album) - 1991 by Metallica
The Madonnas of metal, able to turn down the speed and still prove their one of the heaviest bands around.Probably their most popular album.
- 2. (What's the story) Morning glory - 1996 by Oasis
Oasis was basically the Beatles with a 90's spin put on them and that's not a bad thing, the best album from the best British band of the 90's.
- 1. Neon Ballroom - 1999 by Silverchair
One of the most underrated albums of the 90's.A very sincerely written album that blends orchestral styles with heavy guitar choruses.A very haunting yet soothing sound is what is found on this album.
This list is just my opinion and I really enjoy reading everyone else's.

- 10. Unplugged by Nirvana
This IS Kurt Cobain at one of his lowest moments and it turned in to one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard
- 9. 40 Oz. To Freedom by Sublime
How can you dislike Waiting For My Ruca???????
- 8. Sixteen Stone by Bush
This album is flawless....Needs at least a dozen listens
- 7. Nico by Blind Melon
This is Richard Hoon at his finest, most natural state... R.I.P.
- 6. Core by Stone Temple Pilots

- 5. The Lonesome, Crowded West by Modest Mouse
This is the BEST album they ever put out. There is no contest. It introduced me to Indie music
- 4. Dirt by Alice In Chains
In my opinion the best grunge band (and album) of the 90's
- 3. Third Eye Blind by Third Eye Blind
One of those CDs you can listen to over and over again
- 2. OK Computer by Radiohead
Do yourself a favor, and just buy it
- 1. Aenima by Tool
The most talent shoved in to a single band since Led Zep
90's = Best generation of music
By: Andrew
- 10. Badmotorfinger/Superunknown by Soundgarden
Impossible to pick. These two albums are Soundgarden at their peack. Badmotorfinger is the best of their hard rock, with Jesus Christ Pose being the most creative metal song of all time. Superunknown revealed psychedelic tendancies and established them as on the the decade’s greatest bands. Two great albums that will be listened to for years to come.
- 9. Blood Sugar Sex Magic by Red Hot Chili Pepeprs
The band at their funkiest. Songs like Suck My Kiss, Under the Bridge, Sir Psycho Sexy, and Funky Monks show the band reaching heights that they never again would reach, though they come pretty close on Californiacation.
- 8. Temple Of The Dog by Temple Of The Dog
A supergroup of two the 90s biggest bands, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, before they were the biggest bands of the 90s. In honor of Andrew Woods, the late lead singer of Mother Love Bone, there were no expectations, and the result was just straight of great music. This wasn’t the angst ridden music grunge is known to be. It was sad, but with a purpose. They weren’t hating life, they were mourning the death of a great friend. One of the most beautiful collections of rock songs ever.
- 7. Between the Eyes by Love Battery
- I doubt many have heard of this masterpiece, but it’s the best psychedelic album of the 90s. Coming out of the grunge scence in the early 90s, they were as much influenced by Jefferson Airplane and Pink Floyd and the 13th Floor Elevators as they were by the hardcore punk bands of the 80s. Despite their lack of success and legacy, on a pure musical standpoint, this album is one of the most creative and psychedelic masterpieces of all time. LSD not included.
- 6. Wowee Zowee by Pavement
One of the weirdest albums I’ve ever heard that remains a great album. Pavement pretty much played whatever they felt like on this album. It’s spontaneous, quirky, at times loud, at times beautiful, and most of all, it’s a mess. But what a mess it is. This album could be rock’s single greatest achievement in self-indulgence, along with the White Album.
- 5. Third Eye Blind by Third Eye Blind
Shamelessly catchy, you could call these guys sell outs if they didn’t sound so genuine playing it. Wrongly labeled as post grunge, this is happy, catchy, arena rock in the vein of U2. I think every song on this album has been stuck in my head at one point or another. Definitely one of the best.
- 4. Bang Bang by Dispatch
This legendary indie band knew how to make music. Bang Bang is probably their strongest work, featuring their hit, The General. It’s a beautiful blend of acoustic, rock, and even a hint of reggae. Best independent band of all time.
- 3. Sublime by Sublime
A seamless blending of rock, reggae, punk, hip-hop, jazz, and whatever else they felt like playing. Never before nor since has a band sounded quite like this. For all their imitators, this album is still one of a kind.
- 2. Blind Melon by Blind Melon
Hippies born 25 years too late. When everyone else was making angsty, self-loathing grunge, these guys hit the charts with No Rain, a song you simply can’t listen to without being happy. These guys are still alternative, but they have a definite classic rock vibe. Very worthy of the number two spot on this list.
- 1. Yield by Pearl Jam
Any single Pearl Jam album from the 90s could justifiably go in this spot. Ten with its energy and youth, Vs with its raw aggression, Vitalogy with its sporadic, beautiful mess, or No Code with its… well, whatever the hell that album had. But Yield is my personal favorite. Some called it a long waited return to their early hard rock sound of Ten, but this is far from the truth. While the weird detours that filled Vitalogy might be, at least for the most part, gone, Yield isn’t a straightforward rock album. On Yield, Pearl Jam explores garage punk with Do the Evolution and Brain of J, beautiful ballads with Wishlist and Low Light, classic rock with Faithful and All Those Yesterdays, and even Funk with their unappreciated gem, No Way. On Given to Fly and In Hiding, Pearl Jam reaches majestic new heights that they have never reached before. Lyrically, Pearl Jam is at their best yet. There’s a clear eastern influence, and it seems they’re no longer angry with the world. Truly one of the 90s best, and my personal favorite record of all time.
honorable mentions: Jane's Addiction- Ritual de lo Habitual, Nirvana- In Utero, Hammerbox- Numb, Oasis- Definately Maybe, Lemonheads- It's A Shame About Ray
By: Johnny Smash
- 10. Garbage by Garbage
before there was Goldfrapp there was Garbage. They knew how to rock and dance all in the same song.
- 9. Rufus Wainwright by Rufus Wainwright
What torment and sadness in his aching voice. Give it a listen will you? It needs love and attention.
- 8. Pearl Jam by VS
Love this album still holds up after so many years.
- 7. Experimental jet set trash, and no star by Sonic Youth
My favorite band of all time. their commercial success and a match made in heaven on how kim and thurston understand Teenagers. Thank you for this album.
- 6. To Bring You My Love by Pj Harvey
She brought out the devil in me I knew lurked behind the inner soul of my body. She is still going strong, but this album was a must in the 90's and today as well.
- 5. Tidal by Fiona Apple
This is my jagged little pill. She paved the way for adele and her heartbreak. Give it a listen. It kills you with her soothing vocals.
- 4. Live through This by Hole
This is my high school album. 94-95 where two great years for music for me. This record still plays daily at least once a day.
- 3. Portishead by Portishead
Truly a classic album. Prefer this to their debut much darker and more fully realized to me.
- 2. Post by Bjork
Still travel with this record. Amazing writing, vocals, and of course lots of bjork quirk.
- 1. Boys For Pele by Tori Amos
Truly an amazing album. very underrated. yet it debuted at number 2 on the charts when released, but produced no hit singles. just listen to it from beginning to end and let tori take you on a wild ride.
So many Great album. Honorable mention goes to Nin downward spiral. Oh my loved it. Tori amos-Under the pink and choirgirl hotel.
