What are your top ten favorite movies from the 90s?

    By: Lori
    • 10. SpiceWorld
Ok, I admit it, I'm a big Spice Girls fan! This movie is campy, cutesy, and downright fun! I've probably watched it a zillion times and I never get tired of it!
    • 9. Mrs. Doubtfire
Always fun and touching! Robin Williams is pretty darn cool as a cross-dressing nanny.
    • 8. The Sixth Sense
Extremely scary and disturbing. It was the IN movie in the summer of 1999!
    • 7. Forrest Gump
Timeless, truly a genuine classic of our time. Tom Hanks is so brilliant and wonderful.
    • 6. The Temp
A rather obscure quasi-thriller from 1993 that stars Timothy Hutton and Lara Flynn Boyle. It is one of my favorites because it is so over the top and campy, Lara's character is so diva-esque and mysterious, and her flashy business suits are pretty trippin' as well!
    • 5. Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead
I never get tired of this one! One of the coolest and funniest films of the decade!
    • 4. Clueless
Like, this movie is WAY cool! Everything about it: The clothes, the cell phones, the lingo, and the music epitomized what it was like to be a teenage girl in the 90s...we felt like we could change the world!!
    • 3. Home Alone
The ultimate Christmas movie! It ranks on the same classic level as "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Story". Macauley Culkin is still one of my heroes!
    • 2. Jurassic Park
I saw this movie 3 times when it was out back in the summer of '93! This was THE ultimate adventure movie, and I got scared every single time I watched it. I use to wish a place like that really exisited (minus the T-Rex and raptors!) This mega-hit movie also started the dinosaur craze that was so big in the early to mid 90s.
    • 1. Titanic
My all-time favorite movie. This movie is spellbinding, magical, sad, wonderful, and heartwrenching. I'll never forget the first time I ever saw it in the Spring of 1998. I left the theater in a different state of mind forever.
This is only the tip of the iceburg. The 90s was THE decade of movies, and I had so many that I loved and saw zillions of times at the theater! These are just the few that are dearest to my heart!

    • 10. Go
      A very 90s movie.
    • 9. Saving Private Ryan
      excellent
    • 8. Goodfellas
      Scorsese is brilliant.
    • 7. Braveheart
      Epic.
    • 6. The Big Lebowski
Set in 1991 around the LA area, a hilarious look at life in the 90s.
    • 5. American Beauty
1999 wa such a great year for movies, this one is definitely timeless.
    • 4. Forrest Gump
Yep, a dandy of a film.
    • 3. Dazed and Confused
Not about the '90s, about the '70s, but it is a great movie and gave birth to so many careers (Milla Jovovich, Ben Affleck, Jeremy London, more.)
    • 2. American Pie
Finally, after a decade of stinky teen movies, in '99, one comes out that counts.
    • 1. Pulp Fiction
This movie defines the '90s and is probably the most IMPORTANT of the decade.

    • 10. Schindler's List
A very haunting movie that completely absorbs you.
    • 9. Kingpin
Another silly movie, but absolutely hilarious. Probably Bill Murray's funniest performance ever. And as far as Farrelly brothers movies go (or any comedies for that matter) it was 10 times funnier than There's Something About Mary.
    • 8. Get Shorty
This movie has an interesting plot, great dialogue and of course, John Travolta. As much as I love John though, I have to admit that Dennis Farina stole the show as an F-word loving, bad-tempered mobster.
    • 7. Titanic
I know everyone thinks it's "cool" to trash this movie because of it's big budget, Leonardo and all the hype...and if it didn't live up to the hype I'd probably trash it too. But, it was a wonderful, bittersweet movie that would still have been good without all the special effects.
    • 6. Tommy Boy
Yeah, yeah, I know it's silly. But Chris Farley cracks me up. My old roommates and I used to watch this all the time, and it just gets funnier with each viewing. If nothing else, it has provided me with some classic quotes that always seem to come in handy.
    • 5. The Sixth Sense
For the last few years I've pretty much stopped going to the movie theaters...usually I wait for everything to come out on video. (Unless of course, it's a Travolta flick.) This is one of the few movies I actually went to see and I definitely got my money's worth. I could not stop talking about it for months after seeing it, yelling at everyone I knew to please go see it before some jerk ruined the ending for them. And what an ending.....probably one of the best movie twists of all time.
    • 4. Pulp Fiction
Yes it was a terrific movie, but I picked it as one of the year's best mainly because it was the vehicle that brought John Travolta back! Not that he was ever gone for me....I saw every bomb he made in the '80s...but I knew he'd hit it big again one day.
    • 3. Beauty and the Beast
So what if it's a cartoon? This is my all-time favorite Disney movie.
    • 2. Sleepless in Seattle
Such a sweet love story. It's unbelievable how much chemistry Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have when they're not even together for most of the movie.
    • 1. The Shawshank Redemption
This is the best movie of the decade and probably one of the best of all time. It never fails to make me cry every time I watch it. Given the recent success of The Green Mile, maybe Stephen King should consider giving up all the vampires and werewolves and stick to writing moving stories like this.
It was very hard to pick 10...I'd just like to mention the 5 movies that were runners-up to my list (in no particular order): Face/Off, Braveheart, Fargo, Toy Story 2 and Dazed and Confused.
