What are your top ten favorite movies from the 90s?
By: Tyler
- 10. Angus
Anyone remember this? It's a coming of age story about an overweight adolescent and his attempts to win the girl of his dreams. And there's a Green Day song in it!
- 9. Jackie Chan's First Strike
This one is my favorite Jackie Chan movie. The ladder fight is awesome!
- 8. Tommy Boy
While not high brow, this movie is pretty funny. The whole Farley-Spade dynamic is great.
- 7. Gen X Cops
This is a Jackie Chan production. Really cool movie-great characters, great fight scenes(although I would have like to have seen more), all the stuff you would expect from something Chan related.
- 6. Lion King
Yeah, another Disney movie. But what can I say? This is a great film, still holds up. So go see it, ya dig?
- 5. Toy Story
I remember the whole family going to see this one. A really funny movie!
- 4. Interview With The Vampire
Great movie(thought not as good as the book). Well cast, too. Kirsten Dunst is awesome in this.
- 3. Vieuphoria
I dont know if you could really call this a movie, since it's just a collection of live Smashing Pumpkins material..but still, they rock, and so does this.
- 2. Chasing Amy
Keven Smith is great, and I think this is his best work.
- 1. Jurassic Park
I love this movie! It was the biggest thing ever when I was a kid, and it inspired me to dig up our yard in search of fossils!
I'd just like to comment on Titanic, the most overrated piece of trite bs that the American movie going public has ever swallowed. How it earned fifty bajillion dollars is beyond me, as simply setting through the whole "A woman's heart..blah blah" prompted a quick refund and escape from the theater. Worst movie ever.

- 6. Heat
All star cast! Arguably the two best actors collide in this epic L.A. crime saga. The action is through the roof. Best shootout ever! Suprisingly cheer for good and evil, not your average cops and robbers movie... by any means. This work of art digs way deeper than that.

- 10. Human Traffic
My life in film. Unbelievably accurate if u have ever been part of the chemical/clubbing generation.
- 9. Forrest Gump
WHAT A GUY!!!
- 8. Snatch
Amazing script with horrible but loveable characters. Amazing script from my home country.
- 7. Terminator 2
My fav as a kid so I had to put it here. That may also explain why nearly all these films are violent one's.
- 6. Fight Club
Once you know the twist this movie just gets better each time u watch it.
- 5. Dumb and Dumber
No other film, until the sequel, will be this funny.
- 4. Casino
Well I just love the violence! Full of top quality actors too.
- 3. Pulp Fiction
Characters are to cool to be true!
- 2. Goodfellas
Best mob movie ever!!!
- 1. The Matrix
Most original film in history What more can I say?
If Sopranos was a movie it would be number 1!!!
By: Doomster
- 10. The Joy Luck Club
Chinese foreign-films are depressing and even though this one was made in America, it's depressing as well. But it's still a great movie, marked by some hardships faced by the mothers in the movie.
- 9. Titanic
OK, some of you will second-guess this choice but name another American chick flick that does NOT have a happy ending? This was Cameron's breakout movie as he blended great acting by Gloria Scott, breathtaking special effects, and a good story into a great movie.
- 8. Kids
A wake-up call about the Gen Y'ers. As I watched this movie, I'm reminded of what Newt Gingrich said: "...it is impossible to maintain civilization with twelve-year-olds having babies, with fifteen-year-olds killing each other, with seventeen-year-olds dying of AIDS, and with eighteen-year-olds ending up with diplomas they can't even read. And that what is at issue is literally not Republican or Democrat or Liberal or Conservative, but the question of whether or not our civilization will survive." As Casper says at the end "Jesus Christ, what happened?"
- 7. Reality Bites
the 90's version of the Breakfast Club.
- 6. Silence of the Lambs
Jodie Foster does a great job acting as a rookie FBI agent-in-training w/ a West Virginian accent but is overshadowed by Anthony Hopkin's brilliant performance as the evil genius, Hannibal Lector. Hopkin's portrayal of Dr. Lector as the menacing, brilliant, but demented psychopath won him a much deserved Oscar. It also reinforced my support of the death penalty.
- 5. Shawshank Redemption
A tight movie, great acting, great plot. I can see this movie over and over again.
- 4. Pulp Fiction
I like True Romance a lot but this gets the nod because of the excellent script (minus a big plot hole) and great acting by Willis and Travolta. This vaulted Tarantino to the top, only to see him make stinkers like From Dust til Dawn.
- 3. Boyz in the Hood
As Ice Cube says "They don't know, they don't care....". A look into life growing up in the 'hood marked by Singleton's social commentary about black boys growing up fatherless.
- 2. Saving Private Ryan
A tribute to WW2 veterans, especially those who stormed Omaha Beach. A great movie because it is anti-war yet so patriotic.
- 1. Schindler's List
If I had to pick the best movie from 1990 to 1999, this would be it. It's powerful, painful, emotional as it brings an aspect of the Holocaust to life. Granted, there are other movies more realistic (The Grey Zone) but this movie has an underlying message of good vs evil as depicted by Oskar Schindler and Amon Goethe.
Others of note: Braveheart La Haine (Hate) Once Were Warriors Analyze This Speed The Sixth Sense The Matrix Being John Malkovich The Fight Club Europa Europa The Professional Primal Fear In the Name of the Father Fear of a Black Hat Donnie Brasco Courage Under Fire Unforgiven Forrest Gump Speed Bitter Moon True Romance The Usual Suspects American Beauty Terminator 2 Toy Story Clerks La Vida Loca Good Will Hunting
By: Scott
- 10. Eyes Wide Shut
Stanley Kubrick's final and best work. A haunting underated movie. Tom Cruise gives another underated performance.
- 9. Unforgiven
The best western ever made. Goes agaisn't all others westerns and has a very moral center to it.
- 8. Reservoir Dogs
Quentin Tarintino's first masterpiece. Great quotable dialogue!
- 7. Goodfellas
The best mob movie ever. Great story and great directing from the best director out there Martin Scorsesse.
- 6. L.A. Confidential
Very good story with Kevin Spacey's best and most underated performance.
- 5. Boogie Nights
The study of the porn industry during the 70s and 80s. The first half is funny and entertaining, the second half is emotional and depressing. All brillant.
- 4. American Beauty
So shocking and powerful and funny.
- 3. JFK
Makes you believe and hang on its every word.
- 2. Pulp Fiction
The movie that set all the standards for filmakers to live up to.
- 1. Magnolia
The best movie ever. An emotional masterpiece. Great performance by Tom Cruise who was robbed of his oscar.
Honarble mentions: Jackie Brown, Tombstone, Seven, Primal Fear, Eve's Bayou, Leaving Las Vegas, The Usual Suspects
