      With Zooropa,U2 went from commercial to alternative with it's unusual song structure and downbeat feel,though ending with a flourish.Brilliant.

      Awesomely imaginative lyrics,as well as the phenomenal musicianship of the band and excellent vocals.I can't believe how intelligent Tool are.

      Sombre and touching track,the guitars and drums are beautiful.Kent are very underrated.
    • 7. I Think I'm Paranoid by Garbage
      Shirley Manson is an outstanding vocalist and this track rocks.I particularly love the last chorus where her voice goes all distorted.

      Marvellous and deep ballad,Hurt is very meaningful.A beautiful and innovative track by the genius that is Trent Reznor.
    • 5. Lucky by Radiohead
      Glorious alternative metal ballad with stunning guitars,drums and vocals.Truly uplifting and surprisingly underrated musicians.
    • 4. Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack
      Fantastic track with gorgeous vocals,backing music and sampling that takes the breath away.Timeless.
    • 3. Soma by The Smashing Pumpkins
      Stunning prog effort with a beautiful soft first half then a crushing metallic second section.Corgan and Chamberlin are awesome musicians.
    • 2. Three Days by Jane's Addiction
      Magnificent prog rock with outstanding extended solos by the genius that is Dave Navarro.One of the greatest bands ever musically.
    • 1. The Great Escape by Marillion
      Greatest track from Brave,The Great Escape is an astoundingly emotional and meaningful symphony.The album this came from is incredibly underrated.

    Alternative actually means anything that is opposite to the mainstream or commercial.This should include the old prog acts such as King Crimson and early Yes/Genesis and also Beefheart/Zappa.Strokes/Stripes are commercial.
