What are your top ten favorite songs from the 90s?
By: Brian
- 10. Black by Pearl Jam
I consider TEN the best album of the 90's overall---wish the guys could have handled fame better though..this is the best track...
- 9. Uninvited by Alanis Morrissette
she brought angry women to the forefront and gave Gloria Steinan a whole new heroine...she is by the far the reason female solo artists are so popular today..great song from a great soundtrack
- 8. Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio
not many rap songs would make it on my all time lists...quite frankly only 2 rap songs in my top 50 list of all time...but this song really carried well into the pop genre
- 7. Silent Lucidity by Queenryche
Hmmmm...great song but I prefer Operation Mindcrime passion overall...
- 6. Enter Sandman by Metallica
This metal band redefined themselves quite well...but may eventually re-invent themselves out of a fan base...good song though.
- 5. Bullets with Butterfly Wings by Smashing Pumpkins
probably the most interesting videos and songs of the 90's. Wish they could have stayed together...
- 4. What Would You Say? by Dave Matthews Band
though ultimately known for his live material, DMB will prove to be a classic band for a very long time.
- 3. Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
the ultimate teen angst song and quite frankly one of the most influential bands of our time.
- 2. Lightning Crashes by Live
One of the best CDS of the 90s as well. The video was by Tony Scott who went forward to make action movies...I.E. Crimson Tide
- 1. Losing My Religion by R.E.M.
a lot of people misinterpret the lyrics to this one. Losing my religion is a southern term for 'at the end of ones rope' essentially.
anyone listed a goddamn boy band on here should be shot....all their family and friends beaten and their damn house burned down to the ground.

- 10. Big Pimpin by Jay Z
- 9. Thug Luv by 2pac And Bonethugs
- 8. Put It On Me by Ja Rule
- 7. Satisfy You by R.Kelly And P.Diddy
- 6. Westside by Tq
- 5. Gangsta, Killa And The Dope Deala by Westside Connections
- 4. The Message by Nas
perfect 4 chillin'
- 3. Hennessey And Buddah by Snoop Dogg
phat tune
- 2. Slippin' by Dmx
relaxing song
- 1. So Much Pain by 2pac
wicked lyrics 'bout da hood
By: Artimus P. Gone
- 10. Here in my Bedroom by Goldfinger
Goldfinger's best track on their excelent self titled album.
- 9. Glycerine by Bush
Nice, mellow track from one of the leading rock bands of the decade. Definitely Gavin's best work.
- 8. Hey Man, Nice Shot by Filter
Great band, a lot of great music, but this is the song that they will always be known for.
- 7. Plowed by Sponge
I still get pretty hyped up when I hear this one played on the radio. Too bad the rest of their stuff isn't that good.
- 6. Low by Cracker
This might be Cracker's only really good song, but it is one of the best songs of it's time.
- 5. Setting Sun by Chemical Brothers
I am, by no means, a fan of this style of music. However this is one example of how a band can reach fans of other genras and pull them in with a really good song.
- 4. Heaven Beside Me by Alice in Chains
Defines my life for that period of time.
- 3. Burden in my Hands by Soundgarden
IMHO their best song off their best album. 'nuff said.
- 2. Aenma by Tool
Any song about California sinking off the map deserves to be on this list. And any song that is good deserves to be number two on the list.
- 1. Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
This was a tough call. All of Nirvana's tracks are good, if not great, and it is hard to just pick one to be on this list. I find it tough to choose between this and About a Girl, but Teen Spirt takes it because of it's mainstream appeal.
Keep in mind this is a list of the best rock songs of the 90's. I didn't include other genra's because I have such a biased opionion of other music and didn't feel I good judge those songs fairly.

- 5. Tonight, Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins
Inventive and interesting. Neat song.
- 4. You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette
THE female anthem! It had a lot of anger and feeling in it. It basically said that women didn't have to take it anymore.
- 3. Ana's Song by silverchair
I think it helped people to realise that it's okay to recognise your problems, and it showed people that everyone has tough times. It opened the door for later songs like that. The lyrics were very daring, because they were giving people the opportunity to say a lot of unwanted stuff. It was cool that the chance to help others with problems was more important to them.
- 2. Hey Jealousy by Gin Blossoms
A WONDERFUL, creative, heartfelt, well written song.
- 1. Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
That song summed up the grunge era.
My personal favourites. Yeah, I know most of the people who read this won't agree with me. I don't care!
