What are your top ten favorite movies from the 90s?
By: Jen Cherry
- 10. You've got mail
Yeah yeah I know, CHEESY, but truthfully I loved this movie and I've seen it at least 4 times and cryed everytime...It's so sweet =)
- 9. Wayne's World
Okay, this movie like WAS the 90's, you can't have a top ten list without it.
- 8. Conspiracy Theory
I didn't see this for a long time after it came out and when I finally did I was hooked, Mel Gibson is incredible in this movie I think.
- 7. The Wedding Singer
There's no way I could leave this movie out, I've seen it more times than I can count and I end up in stitches everytime..."One more outburst like that sir and I will strangle you with my microphone wire, you understand me?" hehe, funny =)
- 6. Rush Hour
This was great movie, lots of action from Jackie Chan and comedy from Chris Tucker, so even if you aren't into the whole action thing you still enjoyed it because of the laughs.
- 5. Happy Gilmore
How can you go wrong with an Adam Sandler movie! It's not possible to watch this movie without laughing.
- 4. Jurassic Park
This is one of the best movies, I don't know if I'll ever get tired of watching it.
- 3. Titanic
Now as much as I'd like to scream everytime I hear "My heart will go on" by Celine Dion, I have to admit this was a good movie, I still can't watch it without getting a little emotional.
- 2. Forest Gump
Great movie all around, Tom Hanks is so incredible.
- 1. Braveheart
This has to be one of the greatest movies not only of the ninties, but of all time. It's simply incredible, it gets no better than this.

- 10. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
A terrific modern thriller that is so disturbing in it's subject matter, it has mislead many to call it a horror film. Hopkins performance alone makes this worth watching.
- 9. The Usual Suspects (1995)
Along with L.A. Confidential, this is one of the best neo-noirs of the 90's. Great plot twists and a very well written screenplay.
- 8. Fargo (1996)
The Coen brothers are geniuses, and this is their best film of the 90's. Hilarious performances from William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, Frances McDormand, and Peter Stormare.
- 7. The Truman Show (1998)
Thought provoking fantasy that is not easily forgotten. Immensely captivating.
- 6. Unforgiven (1992)
A revival of a dead genre. Many consider this the "perfect western." I would definitely consider it the greatest modern western, though I personally prefer High Noon, The Ox-Bow Incident, Red River, Stagecoach, and The Wild Bunch in the genre.
- 5. Boogie Nights (1997)
Intriguing masterpiece from Paul Thomas Anderson about the career of Dirk Diggler, a porn star in the 70's and 80's. Funny, exciting, and intense.
- 4. Pulp Fiction (1994)
Easily one of the most intoxicating films ever made. The type of flick you just can't take your eyes off of. Great dialogue, great performances, trashy and stupid, but great.
- 3. Carlito's Way (1993)
An incredibly underrated gangster film masterpiece from Brian De Palma, with brilliant performances from Al Pacino and Sean Penn, among others.
- 2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
One of the inspiring and thought provoking films of all time. One of the best prison dramas too.
- 1. Goodfellas (1990)
A brilliant, mesmerizing film from the great Martin Scorsese. Though, not as good as Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, or Raging Bull, it's still the best film of the 90's.
The 90's were not a great decade for movies in my opinion, but these ten films are definitely worth watching.

- 5. Good Will Hunting
So if I asked you about art, you'd probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written. Michelangelo, you know a lot about him. Life's work, political aspirations, him and the pope, sexual orientations, the whole works, right? But I'll bet you can't tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You've never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling; seen that. If I ask you about women, you'd probably give me a syllabus about your personal favorites. You may have even been laid a few times. But you can't tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy. You're a tough kid. And I'd ask you about war, you'd probably throw Shakespeare at me, right, "once more unto the breach dear friends." But you've never been near one. You've never held your best friend's head in your lap, watch him gasp his last breath looking to you for help. I'd ask you about love, you'd probably quote me a sonnet. But you've never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable. Known someone that could level you with her eyes, feeling like God put an angel on earth just for you. Who could rescue you from the depths of hell. And you wouldn't know what it's like to be her angel, to have that love for her, be there forever, through anything, through cancer. And you wouldn't know about sleeping sitting up in the hospital room for two months, holding her hand, because the doctors could see in your eyes, that the terms "visiting hours" don't apply to you. You don't know about real loss, 'cause it only occurs when you've loved something more than you love yourself. And I doubt you've ever dared to love anybody that much. And look at you... I don't see an intelligent, confident man... I see a cocky, scared shitless kid. But you're a genius Will. No one denies that. No one could possibly understand the depths of you. But you presume to know everything about me because you saw a painting of mine, and you ripped my fucking life apart. You're an orphan right? [Will nods] You think I know the first thing about how hard your life has been, how you feel, who you are, because I read Oliver Twist? Does that encapsulate you? Personally... I don't give a shit about all that, because you know what, I can't learn anything from you, I can't read in some fuckin' book. Unless you want to talk about you, who you are. Then I'm fascinated. I'm in. But you don't want to do that do you sport? You're terrified of what you might say. Your move, chief.
