What are your top ten favorite songs from the 90s?
By: Fred
- 10. You Know You're Right by Nirvana
Thats right, most should know this is the long lost treasure of 1994. The Last 90's song ever released. What a nice closer!
- 9. Time Of Your Life (good Riddance) by Green Day
I'm just again amazed with the progression of early to the late nineties with these bands. Time of you life can be overplayd at every prom, wedding, or graduation, but so what!!! Green Day more than any band, broke off their training wheels and did it all. No other punk band ever had the balls to be this different. They didn't have to pierece something new to do it. Good for them!
- 8. Bulls On Parade by Rage Against The Machine
This is one of the coolest mixes of rock/rap. The guitar riff is excellent and I can't imagine anyone not cranking this song up on the radio.
- 7. The Freshmen by Verve Pipe
Somber song, one the most powerful songs of the 90's. Paralleling the sad reality of teenage suicide in growing every year suburban america.
- 6. 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins
Smashing pumpkins also progressed from "bullet with butterfly (rat in a cage)" to greats like this. Always fun.
- 5. Under The Bridge/californication by Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Watching the Red Hot Chilli peppers progress from "give it away" to "Californication" has been amazing. This band is a fine example of the 90's music scene. Variety and Talent has no end with them. Californication is also just as great with an interesting attack on materialism of california (and a side of homage to cobain).
- 4. Wonderwall by Oasis
This group brought the british pop back into the states, within the band oasis is a love/hate relationship. But these brothers rock!
- 3. Bush by Glycerine
This remains to be one of my favorites still. A simple, but powerful song, it is full of emotion
- 2. My Hero by Foo Fighters
Following up to my last song is the foo fighters. I am a huge fan of about every song from accoustic rarities to radio top 20's
- 1. Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
This song introduced a new wave to the rock scene. It paved the way for unheard of bands, some bad, some different, but some great! Nirvana was an a American band that brought garage rock to the next level. The greatest cd of the 90's. "teenage angst has paid of well, now I'm old and bored" - Nirvana(Scentless Apprentice)

- 10. Isreal's Son by Silverchair
He gets *pissed* off. Hear it from start to finish and you'll see what I mean. You might wanna break something.
- 9. Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers
This is how they broke through. Very mellow, but tragic.
- 8. Freedom by Rage Against the Machine
If you liked ANY of their music, at least hear this one out. The guitar is killer.
- 7. Come Out and Play by The Offsrping
Fit for anyone with a taste in rock or even pop.
- 6. No Excuses by Alice In Chains
Soft, but powerful! Great chorus.
- 5. Paranoid Android by Radiohead
Crazy! Doesn't need a chorus or structure, just insane tempo changes.
- 4. Plush by Stone Temple Pilots
Eh, just awesome
- 3. Better Man by Pearl Jam
Love the beginning and the strong finish. Great vocals.
- 2. All Apolgies by Nirvana
First song you that comes to mind when you think of the "real" Kurt.
- 1. Zero by Smashing Pumpkins
Took what Kurt Cobain started with grunge and took it to the highest level. Short and sweet.
I'm not only into grunge, it just happens to be ahead of everything else, and I didn't use the same band twice on purpose.

this is another lost love
- 2. Heaven Beside You by Alice In Chains
this is one I still catch myself singing at work
- 1. Far Behind by Candlebox

Little Miss Can't Be Wrong - Spin Doctors (at least half of you thought the lyrics were "little Miss Candy Rock") Cannonball- Breeders
By: Dean
- 10. Ordinary World by Duran Duran
Great song.
- 9. Honeymoon Suite by Suzanne Vega
Great song, among others from her in the 90s. The CD 99F is one of the best of the 90s!
- 8. Possession by Sarah McLachlan
Cool song.
- 7. Frozen by Madonna
OK, the lyrics leave a lot to be desired (Madonna is recycling half the lyrics from "Open Your Heart" on this one)but it sounds great. I also really liked Bedtime Story and Vogue.
- 6. Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
I hate to be redundant with others but...
- 5. Fall at Your Feet by Crowded House
I had to include another Crowded House song here since this song is phenomenal...the CD version pales in comparison to some of the live versions out there (with Crowded House as well as Neil Finn's solo tours).
- 4. I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt
Oh my god! In complete contrast to #3. If ever there was a song that so painfully represents unrequited love, it's this one!
- 3. Friday I'm in Love by The Cure
Not a huge fan of The Cure, but this song can put a smile on anyone's face who's ever been in love. I think everyone can relate to it...which is a rarity when it comes to song lyrics.
- 2. Love at Absolute Zero by My Favorite
Somewhat obscure band from Long Island, NY (the Swedes know them)with incredible songs. This song was done in 1999. The CD is probably one of the best in recent history. Absolute Beginners Again, Go Kid Go, Working Class Jacket, etc.
- 1. Four Seasons in One Day by Crowded House
What a great song! Often done by Shawn Colvin and others during live performances. Belinda Carlisle massacred another song of theirs from the 90s ("She Goes On") by changing it to "He Goes On"...the song obviously is about the death of the female. Belinda gets 2 points for liking Crowded House and -3 points for bad interpretation!
