- 10. Far Behind by Candlebox
Debute in 1993 their hit song "Far Behind" was an instant classic with an unforgetable guitar intro.
- 9. Loser by Beck
the song "Loser" brought a new level to the openly distorted lyrics style without much meaning but you could still remember the words. And catchy music so go along with them
- 8. Self Esteem by Offspring
Alternative band that took off in 1993 with hit filled power alternative "Smash" although the band never had any more albums to meet the success of Smash they still defined the teenage uprising with rebel yells.
- 7. Basketcase by Green Day
Band that defined 90s punk with their album Dookie. Solid with hits on both sides. Paved the way for bands like Blink 182
- 6. No Rain by Blind Melon
A change in tone. Lead Singer Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon brought the lighter gentle vibe to rock with beautifully written lyrics. But as in most natural talents the best die young... RIP Shannon
- 5. Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
None other than the band that brought attention to the entire grunge era with their teenage rebel yell "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
- 4. Disarm by Smashing Pumpkins
Another band that defined the alternative movement in the early 90s. With Smashing Pumpkins breakthrough album Siamese Dreams they captured the deep imaginative side of alternative, along with Mr. Corgans' screeching vocals.
- 3. Buddy Holly by Weezer
One of the most definitive alternative bands making their debut in 1994 with the flawless "Blue Album". Not a single track lost its creative edge. Rock on Rivers!
- 2. Nobody Rides For Free by Ratt
Another band that was overshadowed simply because the fact that they were the left-overs of the hairband error trying to make something of theirself in the transition to grunge and alternative in the early 90s. Powerful song. Excellent chorus. (featured in the movie Point Break)
- 1. Man in the Box by Alice In Chains
Truly the most under-rated band ever to come out of the 90's. Layne Staley is the most misunderstood lyricist/poet to come out of the grunge scene. And Jerry Cantrell is the most creative song writer/guitarist ever to wail so briliantly on his ax. All in all Alice's music has been portrayed by so many fakes today its sickening...Bands like Creed, Godsmack(got there name from an AIC song) and Staind. RIP LAYNE! WE MISS U! AIC FOREVER!
I'm a big fan of grunge music namely Alice In Chains because no other band has made as much of an impact in my life as did lead singer Layne Staley who spoke out for the disaffected youth and all the kids that were dealing with troubles that someone their age shouldn't have to go through. Whether it be coping with the strain of life living in a small town to kids having to adjust to family situations such as divorce and abuse. Thanks Layne
